What does fba mean by first and last?

More and more traditional enterprises begin to transform to foreign trade and cross-border e-commerce, but in the process of contacting cross-border logistics, they often encounter the words "first process" and "last process". What do they mean respectively? Let's talk about FBA's first and last journey today?

What does fba mean by first and last?

Domestic logistics transportation does not involve customs, with short process and time, from the place of departure to the destination directly.

But cross-border logistics is completely different. Taking a complete cross-border e-commerce maritime logistics as an example, the goods will go through the following processes:

1. The seller needs to book shipping space from the shipping company in advance, and transport the empty containers from the place designated by the shipping company to its own loading point (the seller's factory).

2. The goods are loaded into containers at the seller's factory, and the customs declaration is made in advance. Then the containers filled with goods are transported by trailers to ports (such as Shenzhen Yantian Port) for shipment.

3. After the cargo ship is full of cargo, the shipping company will direct the cargo ship to overseas ports (such as Los Angeles Port).

4. When the goods arrive at the destination port, the domestic seller needs to contact the trailer to pick up the container at the port and complete customs clearance.

Then, the full container shall be transported to the overseas warehouse for unloading, and the empty container shall be returned to the place designated by the shipping company.

5. Finally, the seller uses the logistics methods of the destination country (such as express delivery, truck delivery, etc.) to deliver the goods to consumers.

In the above process, the transportation process of goods from domestic warehouse to overseas warehouse is called first journey logistics, and the transportation process of goods from overseas warehouse to consumers is called tail journey logistics.

It is worth mentioning that many Amazon cross-border e-commerce sellers choose to use Amazon's FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon), so they will choose Amazon's FBA warehouse as their overseas warehouse. At this time, the process of transporting goods from domestic to Amazon's FBA warehouse is first logistics.

Of course, many cross-border e-commerce enterprises will choose the overseas warehouse of Western Mail Logistics as the warehouse for long-term or temporary storage of goods overseas.

In the future, according to business needs, trucks of Western Mail Logistics or Fedex, UPS, USPS and other destination country express will be used for final delivery.

If goods need to be transported from the overseas warehouse of Western Mail Logistics to the FBA warehouse, this transportation is also part of the final transportation.

Why should we emphasize the first and last stages in cross-border logistics? This is mainly because many cross-border enterprises, especially those newly transformed cross-border e-commerce enterprises, often focus on the first logistics cost while ignoring the last logistics cost when choosing cross-border logistics. When selecting cross-border logistics service providers, they were attracted by the cheap first offer, which resulted in the increase of the overall logistics cost in the final logistics.
